Why do you want to be Mr. Gay South Africa™ 2011? I would like to be Mr. Gay South Africa, as to try and shed some light on some of the stereotypes people have created around gay men. I am a gay man, but I am nothing like what my parents envisioned the day I told them I am gay. People have an idea of what gay men should be, and I don’t believe in that. Each to their own. If I were to be chosen as Mr. Gay South Africa, I think it would be a great foot in the door to enlighten people on the different aspects of the gay community and show them, at the end of the day, we just want to be who we are. I am a happily engaged gay man that wants to create a “normal” live for me and my fiancé. I love my country and I believe that this is home and this is where I want to make a positive change for the good. I believe, we have to be the change that we want to see in the world so it starts with one small step at a time.
Which public gay figure, South African or otherwise, do you see as a role model and why? Neil Patrick Harris – I see this gay man as an inspiration for others. He has a successful career as an actor and entertainer. He plays allot of roles as a straight man. Even though he is an openly gay man. Allot of people believe that this is not possible. But he is doing it. He is also engaged to his partner of 7 years and they recently gave birth to twins, via a surrogate mother. This is something I would love to be able to achieve, to be something other then what people think I ought to be.
