| Why do you want to be Mr. Gay South Africa™ 2011? | Through my participation with the Mr.SA competition in 2009, I have learned that a title like Mr. SA or in this case Mr. Gay South Africa to be an excellent platform to touch on issues that I feel need addressing. In an ever changing society, I consider it my duty to assist and guide young people who struggle with their sexuality and family relationships because of their homosexuality. Mr. Gay South Africa would give me the perfect opportunity to really reach out to those in need of guidance. I feel that South Africa needs this competition for it is important for young developing adults to realise that they are not alone and hopefully through my various campaigns as Mr. Gay South Africa I would be able to reach out and touch their lives in a positive way. |
| Which public gay figure, South African or otherwise, do you see as a role model and why? | I admire Portia de Rossi (now DeGeneres) I think she is an absolute survivor having struggled with homosexuality in a very unforgiving world of fame and fortune where people are coached and expected to be what society wants them to be. For a blonde bombshell being a gay woman was definitely not what society wanted. Her courage in standing up for herself in-spite of other personal issues that included anorexia and bulimia, I find truly astonishing! Today she is a successful and grounded Hollywood actress that has not only kept her career going, but most importantly, found love! What a beautiful modern day fairy tale! Her strength and courage serves as a flickering of hope to millions fighting the same battle on a daily basis! |
