| Why do you want to be Mr. Gay South Africa™ 2011? | The most important role in my mind as Mr. Gay South Africa™ is to be a role model and ambassador for our community. Younger generations look for role models to look up to and Mr. South Africa should embody a successful all-rounder in his career and life as a gay male. The gay community has a long history yet there are still issues like corrective rape and fundamental issues around acceptance in society, schools and in one’s own home. As Mr. Gay South Africa 2011 offers a platform for awareness and education, one needs to educate the straight and gay communities about current issues such as corrective rape. Through knowledge we can instil change and make a difference in South Africa. |
| Which public gay figure, South African or otherwise, do you see as a role model and why? | Timothy Cook, CEO of Apple inc. Also known as Tim Cook the most powerful gay man in America. I admire all members of the LGBTI community who are successful in their given careers and have overcome discrimination and other gay issues in the workplace by being themselves. This is the type of role model Mr. Gay South Africa should be, a person who is comfortable in their own skin and are who they are. |
| Chosen charity to support | PFLAG aims to provide a support system for families and friends of lesbian and gay people in their effort to understand and accept their children with love and pride. |
