Why do you want to be Mr. Gay South Africa™ 2011? My main reason for entering Mr GSA is to be heard. Being Mr GSA allows one the opportunity to really make a difference to how gay people are perceived and to give a voice to the gay community. There are still way to many misconceptions about who we are… Who are we aliens, monsters?… No, we are your family and friends! People need to be informed! I’m your average next door gay guy, not superman and not Einstein … But when I do something I do it well. If I get the opportunity to represent the gay community of SA, I’ll make sure my voice and the voices of people smarter than me will be heard to advance our country and our people.
Which public gay figure, South African or otherwise, do you see as a role model and why? I see Ellen Degeneres as a great gay representative and role model. Why Ellen? One of the hardest things any gay person ever has to do is to “COME OUT”. Ellen started out as a “straight” actress and did not only have to tell her family and friends about her being gay, but the entire world! Knowing she could lose everything she still decided to tell the truth. Ellen Degeneres is a great gay activist and an inspiration to all… She showed that you can be true to yourself and still achieve all your dreams. Gay people are strong and can do anything!
